Two large towers are being created in Long Island City, New York, opening late June. The project, Hy-Fi, is the winner in MOMA’s PS1’s annual Young Architects Program. Each year they choose someone to build a structure. The architect, The Living, are from Brooklyn.
The material was invented by two students, Eben Bayer and Gavin McIntyre, at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2007. They went on to found Ecovative, based on Green Island, New York. The material has great potential to replacement plastics like Styrofoam in many applications (probably not drinking cups). Who would have thought fungi had such potential?
